Lucky for us, our world is filled with all kinds of people. We look different, speak different languages, have different abilities and talents, eat different foods and have different hobbies. In fact, everyone is different in practically every way you can think of! So when you’re tempted to compare yourself with others, just stop yourself—there’s no point. All of us are unique. Focus on making yourself the best YOU that you can! Here are a few tips to get you started eating healthy and getting enough exercise. In other words, making a healthy YOU!

Give your body the fuel it needs to be strong.
A healthy body needs healthy foods. Pretty simple, right?

Time spent sitting should equal time spent moving around.

For every minute you spend in front of the television or computer, do a minute of physical activity—your choice. Aim for an hour of exercise each day.

Make fruit your snack of choice.
Skip the chips and cookies and go for something fresh and fruity. Frozen, fresh, dried or canned, fruit is easy to eat and makes a great snack anytime you need one. Want to dip it? Yogurt or peanut butter are tasty and healthy dips for fruit.

Bring Mom, Dad or the dog along.
Exercising is a lot more fun when you have company.

Veg out.
Ok, what we really meant was eat more vegetables. Aim for two veggies with dinner and one with lunch and you’ll be all set.

Gimme a V (for variety).
Break out of your banana rut or raw carrot habit and try something new. There’s a whole world of produce out there just waiting for you!

Make the bread switch.
You’re not still eating white bread, are you? Whole wheat bread is better for you, and is just as soft and delicious as white bread. Ask Mom or Dad to buy 100% whole wheat bread instead (make sure it says 100% on the label) and get the whole family to make the switch. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Get your calcium here!
Ok, milk (or fortified soy milk) is the obvious choice —aim for 3 cups a day. If you’re not a big fan of milk, try these other foods: yogurt, cheese, some cereals, and calcium-fortified juices.

Skip the soda pop.
Water is cool, and is way better for you than soda or pop. Keep a bottle of water handy when you’re playing outside, exercising, at the beach, at home or wherever.

Remember that quick food can also be healthy food. There are plenty of wholesome convenience foods out there. Go with your Mom or Dad to the store and together you can choose healthy foods that are easy to fix. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up a couple of Ian’s frozen foods, too—they’re healthy, convenient and well, they just taste great.
